The Polaroid: Instant Photos!
The Polaroid images were a revolution in the photography community. The camera allowed photographer to remove a developing print after the picture had been snapped.
The Polaroid camera was invented by an American inventor and physicist named Edwin Herbert Land. He was able to produce a one-step process for developing and printing photos that created the instant photography of the Polaroid we see today. The first Polaroid camera was sold to the public in November of 1948. This is also around the time when Land founded the Polaroid Corporation.
The film that you put in a Polaroid contains all the necessary chemicals to create you image, but it also has several other chemical layers on top. The layers on top consist of the chemicals that you need for the development process. The two sets of layers sit on top of a black base layer, the image layer, the acid layer, and the timing layer. The film is basically a chemical reaction waiting to happen when you click the button!
